IASC Research and Scholarship Statement
The International Association for Space Counseling advances rigorous, ethical, and interdisciplinary research on counseling, behavioral health, human performance, resilience, relational functioning, and adaptation in spaceflight and extreme environments. IASC supports scholarship that identifies unmet needs, strengthens theory, evaluates interventions and systems, informs professional competencies, and translates knowledge into practical guidance for the expanding spaceflight ecosystem.
IASC promotes transparent, responsible research practices, including methodological rigor, appropriate protection of participants, cultural and international relevance, responsible use of data and artificial intelligence, and accurate communication of findings and limitations. The Association encourages research spanning the full human spaceflight continuum, including preparation, selection and training, analog environments, mission operations, family and support systems, return and reintegration, and future exploration or settlement contexts.
