IASC Leadership and Advocacy Statement
The International Association for Space Counseling provides ethical, collaborative, and evidence-informed leadership to advance behavioral-health equity, psychological safety, and access to qualified counseling support across the spaceflight ecosystem. IASC advocates for systems, policies, professional standards, and organizational practices that protect human dignity, support well-being, reduce preventable barriers to care, and recognize behavioral health as essential mission infrastructure.
IASC advocates at individual, organizational, professional, and systems levels. This includes promoting confidential and accessible support pathways; culturally responsive and inclusive practice; ethical safeguards around assessment, disclosure, and fitness-for-duty concerns; competent preparation and supervision of professionals; and responsible integration of behavioral-health expertise into mission design, training, operations, and post-mission transition. IASC also works to establish space counseling as a credible and distinct counseling-informed area of professional knowledge and practice.
